Sock it to Cancer

7 Jun

It started out a bit rough; as the night got closer, our team dwindled down to a measly four people.  However, not even the rain and snow could dampen our spirits.

I’m so proud that my Relay for Life team — Sock it to Cancer —  raised $2,475.00 for the Canadian Cancer Society fo fund cancer research and support programs.   Edmonton’s event raised more than $300,000.

When I worked at the Society I had the opportunity to meet so many cancer survivors, cancer patients, and caregivers.   Our rinky-dink little team has truly made a difference to these people.   We were initially a bit reluctant to spend the night outside in the snow, but when we heard the stories of people who had fought (or were fighting) this disease, and when we saw the tears rolling down the faces of those who had loved ones who had lost their fight, the weather seemed inconsequential.

I love these people.

Congratulations! And I think I was driving through Calgary while you guys were doing this if it was during the snow- I would have hopped out of the car to give you a high five & some hot chocolate 🙂

    Kyla,

Edmonton would be just a *tiny* bit out of your way driving through Calgary… but it was pretty gross. We only got snow that one day; Calgary saw a lot more of it than we did.
